I once heard someone use the term “spotwell” to describe a distinct and vivid memory from childhood:

“It’s like a spotwell in my memory,” the man said, tapping the side of his skull for emphasis.

I was fascinated by that word (which as far as I can tell is not a “real” word), and afterwards imagined an inky-black fish as the indelible memory, swimming in a fishbowl of the mind….
