Dwelling was my solo exhibition at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, July 6 – August 25, 2007. The exhibit consisted of etchings, paintings, sculptures and two installations designed specifically for the space. An investigation into both meanings of the word dwelling (a home to live in and to linger in memory), the exhibit considered familial, cultural, and genetic memory. The basic premise was that within each of us reside genetic bits of many previous lives; life on our planet is ecologically/biologically interwoven, and I believe we each house ancient memories. The works in the exhibit, particularly the Salt Labyrinth, were meditations on origin and what it means to feel at home.
