The Dowser Married the Alchemist was a collaborative exhibit with my husband, photographer David Ondrik. We had discussed and assisted one another with our individual work in the past, but this was our first time out as direct collaborators. It was fantastic! The exhibit had two large scale installations (30 Gallon Labyrinth and Bower), two large mixed media works, and several of our individual pieces: David’s photographs, and my sculpture, drawings and etchings. Many people are curious as to the meaning of the title; I think it boils down to “The Mystery-Seeker Married the Mystery-Seeker.” I see both dowsing and alchemy as metaphors for creative work: searching and transformation. With this collaboration, I believe that we went farther together than we might have, on our own. The exhibition was installed at SCA Contemporary in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 19 – July 19, 2009.
